Sir Ken Robinson- Education Systems

So I just watched an awesome video on the education system and how it is very corrupt. I recently got my laptop for Christmas as some of you may know, and I downloaded he Ted Talks app. I love Ted Talks because everyone that speaks there opens your mind up to a new perspective on life and the things that happen within it. So, I went to the most watched section and I saw a video on how "School kills Creativity" which I thought was perfect for someone like me and like everyone who can relate to many bloggers as we all really want the same thing; to be heard, to have an opinion, and to share our ideas (whether it's on makeup, or fashion, or whatever!) The speaker of this video is Sir Ken Robinson. He is a an advocate for creative people! And I think I happen to be one of them.

So I have put up the video here and I promise that it will not waste our time. It really opened up my mind and made me realize things that I have never felt or recognized before. It is 20 minutes long but don't worry there are some funny parts in there so you won't get bored at all.

I felt so moved that I actually sent a message to him about the Canadian education system and my feelings and opinions on it. I have a strong opinion and I will copy and paste it down below.

My opinion/story

• So to begin my message to you I know you're probably not going to read this but I'm going to send it you anyways so I can get this off of my mind to someone that understands the troubles of kids my age (which is 17) and the education system and how it is set up. Let me tell you a bit about myself, I live in Canada where we have one of the highest education rates just to go to school and "do the best we can do so we make the most amount of money in the end". In Canada it is so expensive that people go into major amount of debt that can only be paid off if you end up getting a job when you're done your degree, diploma, or whatever. How on earth are we as 17 and 18 years olds supposed to pay for something of this amount? And by amount I mean up to $250,000 in debt! (Depending what you go for and how long the program takes). My personal opinion about the Canadian education system is that they are putting way too many expectations on their youth. In order for someone to go to school you either take out student loans or get someone else to pay it for you (e.g. your rich parents or grandparents; which not all kids have). If you are one of those kids who are less fortunate (not meaning poor) to not have your schooling paid for, you have to pay for it yourself; which means getting a job. Getting a job isn't always the easiest and is not practical for teenagers who are already under pressure for grades to even be considered or accepted. It's simply this...

  1. You have a job to pay for your school and work many hours and don't get good grades. This just leads you down a path where, you have bad grades and no acceptances to colleges or universities in the end. or 2. You don't have a job which allows you more time to work and focus on your schooling. Not having a job means you're going into a lot of debt; which means you might not not be able to pay it off for about 5-10 years... if you end up getting a job with your degree you got.

  People in my generation are also put under another stress; the baby-boom era. We are at the bottom of an inverted triangle that is never going to be turned the right way ever again. People are having less and less kids because of their jobs and because of the economy which come down to education and money. We (as in my era) are going to have to take care of all of these people and going to have to pay off all their debt and pay towards their pension; which is going to be a heck of a lot of money considering the population difference.

  I just recently got a laptop for Christmas this year and downloaded the Ted Talks app, I found your video on "School kills Creativity" and it really moved me to message you. I also went to your website and watched another video of someone drawing out one of your talks on a white board which mainly focused on ADHD and how out schooling revolves around the Industrial Movement. I also loved this video.

  I am one of those people who you mentioned. I am a creative person that would really like to do Interior Design or a Major event planner. I just love being around huge events and I love planning things out ever since I was little. But in my mind and all around me I have been told to forget it because "you'll never succeed in that area of work". But in my heart I know I will be my happiest if I do do this type of work. Ever since I was 6 years old I said that I wanted to be a dentist and stuck with it because it made my parents happy. What I have realized by watching this video is that you need to make yourself happy in everything you do and do everything for yourself and for no one else. You've moved me to help others around me that are my age and are applying to universities, and to tell them about their full potential and to do things for themselves and not for others.

  Sincerly, A kid who wants to make a difference in the education system in Canada.

Olay Fresh Effects {Bead Me Up!} -Review

Like most people, in the winter I tend to get very dry skin. Which is very annoying when it comes time to pick out a face wash that will not dry out my face more than it already is. I purchased this product probably in October sometime (I honestly cannot remember) since my previous face wash was not doing the job or anything in fact. I purchased it when they did a lot of advertising for this product. I saw the advertisements everywhere; magazines, YouTube, stores, and basically everywhere online. So I went to my grocery store and got it for $9. As soon as I used it once I hated it! It made my skin flaky, tight, and sore to be completely honest. I would not recommend this product to anyone! It smalls very chemical-ly and seems it as well. Anyways bottom line... I hated it and it is a very poor product!

Do not buy!

I find the packaging ugly and it's not appealing at all!!

Boxing Day - H and M, Forever21, and Aerie

This year at during boxing day I went to Newmarket's Upper Canada Mall; which is about 45 minutes away from me. I only had brought a hundred bucks with me to spend so I didn't end up getting much. I looked around a fair bit and there weren't that many good sales on! The stores I did go to though had excellent deals! As you can tell from the title I went to those stores and picked up a fair bit for only $100.

SALE: The sale in H and M was buy one clearance item and get the second one free! Which I thought was amazing! All of these items I ended up getting below were $5 each, which is a total steal! 

 This is going to make the cutest summer dress! Can't wait!

 Love the orange dress (I can actually wear it frontwards and backwards) the back makes it a higher neck and the front is the zipper! I might try to shrink this one though just because it's a bit too big on me!

 This simple black dress I got for layering and it looks way better on!

Ended up getting these for $20! Love the style and it's such a staple piece! 

I've never owned a bralette before but I totally love it! Looks way better on than on the hanger! Got it in a size small for $10!

This will definitely be a staple piece of mine! It's textured which make it look beautiful on it's own or paired with jewelry! It's a heavier material so it hangs really nice on the body! This was not on sale and I got it for $16

Overall I think I did pretty good and I didn't want to spend that much money since I have a lot of clothes already! (You can never have too many clothes though. Ha!)

Essence - 113 Do you speak Love? Review

As the holidays have already come and gone, I still love to wear Christmas colours. Although I think I can wear burgundy whenever I please! Ha! Anywho... I was shopping at my local Shoppers Drugmart for a nail polish so that I could paint my nails with my cousin who was hanging out with me for the night. We were looking around at all the nail polishes and I found this little-wee stand in the back full of nail polishes. I was looking at all the colours (which there weren't many of) and found this beautiful deep red colour. I then saw the price and was astonished on how cheep it was! Only $1.99? I was skeptical of the quality because it was so cheep but than opened the lid and stroked the colour onto my nail!  I was in love! The colour was beautiful! I was looking around the stand a little more and found a little container containing tiny little silver beads, I also had to get them because they were only $2.50! I have tried so many brands including Essie, Sally Hanson, Revlon, Rimmel, and many others. I don't think that Essie is that something to be cracked up about. I really dislike the brush and I find it chips very easy. Not worth the $9-11 depending on where you buy it. I really do love the colours they come out with. Since I have painted my nails I have added another coat over top which gave the colour a deeper red look which I love better so I recommend two coats if you have the time and are patient. If you're not patient though I always put my nails in freezing cold water right after I paint them and this hardens them within 3-4 minutes. Yes it is painfully cold and No it does not run, or come off in the water. I definitely will be buying more colours and products from Essence!

Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter Review

Since I was little pink lips always stood out to me and made me realize that it can make any outfit pop. This Revlon Lip Butter is a perfect necessity when it comes to dressing up an outfit or just wanting a moisturizer for your lips.

I've used this product a lot especially at school, as my lips tend to get dry in the winter months. Its the perfect size and I just pop it into my pencil case!

 The packaging is very modern and eye-catching. Although I wish the bottom black part was a littler larger so the lid isn't so hard to take off especially if you're in a rush.

 The colour Strawberry Shortcake 080 is good for lighter skin tones as it doesn't make you look too washed out.

 As you can see I've used a fair bit already!

This is probably one of my favourite lip butters as it's covering but not think and sticky like other Lip Sticks. You can also just dab it on to give you a little bit of colour to your face.

Mascara Review; Maybelline the Colossal Volum' Express CAT EYES

First ever product review!

**I vow to always tell the truth about products I own, these are my own opinion. The products could work differently for you then they did for me**

When I first started wearing makeup, I always was wearing Cover Girl, in my opinion their products don't work the best for my skin and I'm not a fan of their mascara's either... Although I wouldn't mind trying the Taylor Swift line.
I then changed over to Maybelline products which I find so much better! They're cheap and work excellent!

 My bottle is very worn down since it's almost gone, I bought it in May, and it's lasted a while!

I love the packaging, it's very light and sleek.

The colours are very bright and adds that extra colour to any makeup bag.

 This is honestly the best mascara I've ever used, will be buying more!

 The brush is the best feature to this mascara, it's curved which allows you to get every hair even those tiny ones in the corner of your eyes which adds volume to any lash!

CON; the brush has been coming out of the handle. This may be because I use it everyday, but it seems as if it wasn't glued in properly. Still in love with it though!

There is no clumping with this mascara, the bristles are very hard and are not plastic (BONUS)! 

Retails for around $7.99 at any drug store, and usually goes on sale at some point so keep a look out for this awesome product!

Summer 2013

Summer is almost gone for the 2013 year, which makes me have mixed feelings over everything.

I like wearing high waisted shorts, crop tops, and bathing suits, but I haven't been able to wear any of this stuff this year. I went away on vacation where the weather is always around 15-17 degrees (C). I went away from the longest freshwater beach for 3 weeks and in this time, I wasn't able to wear any of my clothes due to me being in Newfoundland, Canada. 

It is a very lovely place (as you can see if you click the link). The environment and people remind me of being in the UK!

The food is amazing as well!

Here are some pictures that I captured throughout my journey!

 While I was there I got to see amazing scenery and wild life. As you know, I'm in love with flowers so I captured this shot while I was on one of the many hikes!

 This picture is from the coast line, also captured on one of the hikes!

 I find this picture to be very beautiful, it's my nanny's hand holding a partridge berries. They aren't ripe yet but in September they go picking for these berries which taste like cranberries.

 We went to one of the museums about a half hour away from the town we were staying in and found these hanging on the back of the building. 

So beautiful!

 The colours of the houses in Newfoundland are exceptionally pretty! This is a little cafe that serves as the only towns restaurant! (Imagine only having 1 restaurant...what has this world come to)

 While in the same town as the cafe, meuseum, and sea glass (below), these flowers were lined up in front of the parsonage; which is found in the blurred background. Here we visited my great grandparents graves. 

On one of the beaches we found a LOT of sea glass, I have a whole bag which I plan to make jewlery with by wrapping them in wire!

 This was my backyard view for the past 3 weeks!

This is where I wish I had a better lense, here is the official Newfoundland flower, the Pitcher Plant. It grows in bogs. This one was taken on another hike through Gros Morne.
